| I try not to think too hard about what I’m painting; I just try to free my mind and make paintings that I like to look at myself.
Lately I have been inspired by medieval religious art where it looks like artists were just starting to figure out realism; their images are naïve and somewhat cartoonish but still earnest. In 2009, I went with a delegation from the City of Somerville to our sister city, Tiznit, Morocco. The paintings on this page are inspired by my time there.
Born in Clarinda, Iowa, in 1966. Graduated cum laude 1984 from Phillips Academy, Andover, MA. Graduated A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College, 1988. Lives and works at the Brickbottom Artists Building in Somerville, MA. Has exhibited in various galleries in the US and abroad since 1989.
