| Statement: |
| These pieces are from a series, in which I explore ways that our imagination and memory interact with the natural world, a world that is never far from the effects of human intervention. In this work, I have focused on the cultural and social history of water, how the past has left traces in our environment and in our individual and collective experience. I create layered maps, altered and re-shaped to indicate the effects of war, political and economic conflict, and the effort to control rivers through dams, mills, and diversions. Though I use sections of actual maps, the resulting landscapes are imagined. | |
